Here at David Forlano, DDS, we are happy to answer any and all questions from patients about whichever treatments they are interested in. But we’ve noticed that implant patients tend to ask a lot of similar questions. To help relieve this curiosity before you consult with us one-on-one, take a look below to see if we’ve answered your initial questions. If not, than contact us right away and one of our experienced team members will be happy to take your question.
No; during the actual implant placement surgery, Dr. Forlano will use local anesthesia (and perhaps IV sedation) to ensure that you feel no pain or discomfort during your surgery. If IV sedation is administered, patients will not be unconscious, but in a deep state of relaxation with no recollection of the surgery either. Ask Dr. Forlano about these sedation dentistry methods and how they would be implemented for your treatment.
This will depend on your son or daughter’s situation. It’s highly recommended that any young patients seeking dental implants have already fully developed jawbones and facial features. If your child hasn’t quite gone through puberty or is still growing, Dr. Forlano is the practitioner to see. He is trained and experienced in training adolescents with missing teeth. Don’t panic! Though this occurrence is rare, sometimes a crown may break if you were chomping on something solid like plastic or bone. If this happens to you, schedule an appointment with Dr. Forlano immediately. We’ll help you restore your crown in as little as one day.
It’s okay to travel during your procedure, as there is some time between the initial placement and the application of the abutment. This can take a few weeks to a few months. If you plan to travel long-term sometime during your implant treatment, please contact us and let us know about the dates you will be gone so that we can plan around your vacation accordingly.
Dental implants are permanently placed due to the process of osseointegration. This fusion is unique to titanium dental and medical devices, as titanium is a metal that is biocompatible with human bone and tissues. When osseointegration occurs, the bone wraps fibers around the implant and secures it to the jawbone. Without this process, dental implants would not be as successful as they are.
Dr. David Forlano offers a specific type of implant known as “Teeth-in-a-Day.” This treatment is unique to patients who need a tooth extracted and then replaced all within the same day. By applying the new implant so quickly, the bone can osseointegrate quickly around the fixture. Dr. Forlano will then top it all with a temporary crown. To qualify for this procedure, patients must demonstrate that they are in need of it, as well as having enough jawbone density to immediately support the implant.
Do you still have questions? Don’t hesitate to give us a call, or set up a consultation with Dr. Forlano.
