One of the most important aspects of a dental implant treatment that patients are concerned with is how committed they must be to the treatment. It’s true that dental implants are not an “instant” process: they take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. But our patients have always been beyond satisfied with the results of their treatment, raving about the benefits of their restored smile. Take a look below at the few steps it takes to have a complete smile again with Dr. Forlano.
Get to know our esteemed, local implant provider, Dr. David Forlano through a one-on-one consultation. In our comfortable office, Dr. Forlano will evaluate your oral health, discuss your treatment options, and explore what your dental implant treatment process might look like. During this time, you can ask questions and also discuss any anxieties you may be feeling. Once the plan has been designed, we will illustrate the next steps for you.
Prior to implant treatment, we must first check if your jawbone and gum tissues are healthy enough to support the implant. If not, a bone graft or gum graft may be in order. These two treatments can help revitalize an area of your mouth, so that your implant has a better chance of succeeding.
Dental implants are comprised of three parts, and the first of these parts to be placed is the titanium fixture. It’s embedded where the missing tooth once was and is left to heal with the jawbone so that it can undergo osseointegration. This process can take many weeks to a few months. But once finished, your implant will remain permanently placed.
The fixture was just the post that will support the implant, but the abutment is what keeps the crown in place. The abutment is capped on top of the implant fixture, and then the crown will be placed on top. Prior to placing the crown, Dr. Forlano will work with you to ensure that your crown restoration looks and feels as natural as the neighboring teeth.
The aftermath of dental implant surgery is a vital time to follow all of Dr. Forlano’s guidance. This is when the beginnings of osseointegration take place, a vital fusion process that permanently secures the implant to the jawbone. Any disturbance in the tissues could hinder this process, so please adhere to Dr. Forlano’s instructions, and contact us if you have any questions.
